Making a successful career change: some dos and Don’ts

Making a successful career change
Changing the career is always a tough call to make and if you are seriously looking to go for it you must keep several things in mind. When you are thinking of changing your career that means you are in a challenging phase of your career and it is really a tough decision to take. Your mind must be filled with uneasiness and suspicions as leaving the comfort of your present job and the concern of joining the upcoming job troubles you most. But, the thing is that to get going into a career you need to switch jobs at the right point. This trend is therefore here to stay and the current surveys reveal that in an average successful job profile almost has two job changes per three years.
People now do not depend on the promotion in the same company; instead they look for switching companies with much higher payment. The mobility in the job market, thus increased a lot. People try to change jobs, according to the increase of their skills. The earlier thought of being loyal to the company also changed and employers do not take job hopping as a sign of disloyalty towards their present company. Whenever they get a good opportunity they are more than willing to take it.
However, one has to be very careful and make these changes tactfully, to shine in their career. Before making the shift one should thoroughly research the pros and cons of both the companies and the resultant change. The present market scenario should also be kept in mind before making the final leap. Consider not only the salary hike, but also your scope as an employer in the new company and the background of the company. It is of course useless to switch companies if you do not get the required benefit.
Please try to keep in mind the following points while deciding for a career change. Make a well defined plan of career change before starting to think about the possibilities. Do not rush into it and make a hasty decision. Keep track of the growth opportunities and offers in your current job and compare them with the upcoming one. If you see that changing the career will really benefit a lot, then go for it, otherwise it has no meaning. Often changing jobs for monetary gains only may costs you hard in the future. Try to make your profile comparable so that you can always get offers from reputed firms.
Once you are certain to change your job, do not lose your focus because of the anxiety or tension for the new job environment. Just back yourself here as this is very important for your career and you have to overcome the unsecured feeling of leaving the comfort of the settled job environment. Your career is a delicate affair and one must be sure about one’s own ability and goal to avoid unwanted situations in life.
There may be various reasons behind your thought of changing the career. It may also because of the dissatisfaction with your current job (no growth opportunities, wrong company attitude, and bad relationship with your boss). Changing jobs in the same field is relatively easier compared to your decision of changing the career altogether. In both the cases if you have proper homework it may help you avoid difficult circumstances in the future and you do not have regrets later. So back yourself and wishing a very happy career change.

THE CARETAKER BY A. X. AHMAD

Recently I came across an exciting thriller in The Caretaker by A. X. Ahmad. It was an exciting read indeed and here I am sharing my views with you. Just guess who the real caretaker is taking care of Martha’s Vineyard mansions.

Who is A. X. Ahmad?

Mr. A.X. Ahmad is a full time write from India. He had formal education at MIT and worked as an internationally acclaimed architect before taking up writing as a full-time profession. The Caretaker is his debut novel as A.X. Ahmad, though he wrote short stories and essays in many magazines as Amin Ahmad before.

The Caretaker in short

Ranjit Singh often gets haunted by a hallucination of his disgraceful past as a Captain in Indian Military Service. Thus he shifted himself to Boston (as an illegal immigrant) with his Preetam and young daughter Shanti. He is desperately trying to start his life afresh leaving behind the scandalous past aside. He took a work in the grocery store of his uncle for his leaving. Later, after a couple years he found a job of caretaker on Martha’s Vineyard, which is inhabited by some rich residents. Among them leaves an African-American politician called Senator Neals with his wife Anna Neals. They just returned from North Korea as a Hero.

Ranjit was staying in a rented house nearby which is off-course not in a very good condition and is suffering from heavy oil leakage. Passing the winter became really tough for the whole family, and with no suitable options available, they decided to spend the winter in Senator Neals’ house (as they will be absent for the whole winter). So they secretly move into the Senator’s house. The real problem started from here. One night two armed personnel attacked the house.  Ranjit fled with his family immediately as they were also trespassers and could be arrested. Unfortunately Shanti, the young girl took a wooden doll from the house while fleeing and later it was clear that it was the wooden doll the two attackers were after. So Ranjit and his family found themselves in a real tangle indeed. Unknowingly, they became a part of a massive political scandal. He is a wanted now and has only limited resources and more importantly very little time to save himself along with his family.

Now who are these intruders and what is the mystery behind a simple wooden doll? To save his family Ranjit has to answer them as quickly as possible. Will he be successful in unravelling the secret and save his family? Will his scandalous past in India be untangled as well? Will he get back his dignity?

The thrilling story revolves around both past and presents (secret military operation in Siachen Glaciers and Martha’s Vineyard). Several action packed sequences in Indo - Pak border, Boston, in islands make the novel really a page turner. The novel is well written with nice easy flow and all the characters depicted very well indeed. The life of immigrants in the US is also portrayed very well. Moreover the fast pace of the novel is just the right icing on the cake

The gripping tale will take you to height of excitement with an engaging plot. It is that rare breed of books which you will find difficult to let it down once started.

With Caretaker, I am a happy reader at the end of the day. I must congratulate the author for his debut novel and looking forward for more such exciting thrillers in the near future.

Indian General Elections 2014: Vote for a better India

Electoral system and more importantly voting is the pillar of democracy. Voting thus play a vital role in democracy and associated election system. With India (the second most populous and seventh largest country of the world) being world’s largest democracy the importance and responsibility as a voter increase that much more. Everybody should understand that Democracy can really work but a true democracy cannot be reflected with a handful voters voting. We all need to vote to ensure the true majority. India will have one of her major decisive election in the coming six months, and we must drive our population to vote for India to ensure a better India in coming years.

Only old voters!!!

The young India is less concerned and aggressive when voting is concerned. The majority of the voters is older people or more adherent supporters. There is a lack of urgency among young voters with a feeling that one vote will not make any difference (nothing will change whether I vote or not).

One must realize that voting really matters to the health of the Indian political system and to the voters itself. Every vote counts. Voting is the best way to express your opinion and allows you to select the best person with similar views. Moreover voting is the main pillar of democracy and we all have the responsibility of keeping it alive in our country. In short; no voting attitude hurts our country's interest badly. It has been estimated that roughly almost 120 million first time voters will represent the Indian General Election 2014.

These numbers clearly indicate the importance of the younger generation to vote for a better India.
The recent trends in five state elections had clearly indicated a major shift in mindset of young Indians and we must capitulate on this resurgence of young minds by reaching for them and mobilize them to vote for India in the coming election to build a more energetic, transparent and strong Central Government.

Motivate the young India: will social media help?

We definitely need to inspire and mobilize young India to come forward and vote in the coming General Election in 2014. Social media’s influence in the modern world is of paramount importance and India is no different. Especially when we consider young and educated Indians and if we want to motivate them, social media will definitely be the most effective option. A social media app will be more favourable as it will have better reach, flexibility and simplicity. It can also be used by cheaper devices at anytime or places. They further offer more personalized options with features like Voice and Group Chat, Live Chat, Chat History Backup, Video Calls, Location Chats, Stickers, Moments, Emotions, Look around, Shake, Drift Bottle to make younger generations glued to them.

Indian General Election 2014

The ideal social media app to drive young Indian voters

Now to drive young Indians to vote we really have to inspire them the proper way so that they can understand the responsibility at hand and participate in voting enthusiastically.
The right app should arise the forgotten patriotic feeling in young Indian and make them aware of the social responsibility of voting they need to fulfil. Our young India (and maybe the whole young generation of developed and developing countries) is becoming too eccentric and self centred. We need an ideal social media app may have: -
  • First the App should run freely over different platforms like Android, Windows, iOS, BlackBerry, Bada or Symbian to have maximum reach
  • Can interact with different existing social media apps and social media sites freely
  • Nice wallpapers of India to develop the love for our country (give them a feeling of their motherland)
  • Debate, quiz and polls regarding Indian politics and election system
  • Inspiring life history of great leaders of our country
  • Talks from prominent personalities remembering them their responsibility towards the country and the importance of each vote
  • Patriotic songs
  • Exciting short patriotic games
  • Celebrities urging the young Indians
  • And many more
Indian General Election 2014

We all talk about better India. So let us start making India by casting our vote for the right people. Voting is one very important civil right. Use it to build a stronger India. Spread the message among young Indians. Young India, come and vote for your motherland. Remember and chant the words of Upanishad “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.
